Kishtwar, Jammu & Kashmir: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday reviewed the ongoing relief and rehabilitation measures in the aftermath of the Chasoti cloudburst that struck the region on 14 August, claiming several lives and causing extensive damage to property and infrastructure.
“After a heavy natural calamity, many local residents, devotees, and security personnel lost their lives,” Sinha said, expressing grief over the tragedy. He added that since the incident, the administration, local MLA Sunil Sharma, and other officials have been working with “sensitivity and commitment” to assist affected families.
The LG informed that State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) assistance has been sanctioned and substantial funds allocated for the reconstruction of houses and other essential infrastructure. “Efforts are also underway to rebuild roads, bridges, petrol pumps, and mobile towers, and to establish an Army School,” he said.
Acknowledging that adverse weather had prevented the Defence Minister’s earlier visit to the site, Sinha emphasized that additional steps are being taken to ensure long-term rehabilitation. “It was felt that more should be done to support people’s rehabilitation. The Prime Minister has assured full government support for the revival of the affected families,” he noted.
