Leh, Ladakh: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Kavinder Gupta on Wednesday said that the charges brought against activist Sonam Wangchuk under the National Security Act (NSA) are matters that concern the Union government. He stated that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) would provide clarifications on the action, noting that such charges are “naturally based on some grounds.”

“The matter concerns the Centre. The charges levelled by the MHA must naturally be based on some grounds, and they will speak on that. I believe I am looking into the local issues, while matters related to the Centre and the NSA will be addressed by them,” Gupta told reporters in Leh.

For the unversed, noted climate activist and education reformer Sonam Wangchuk was recently detained under the NSA, a stringent preventive detention law. His arrest has triggered widespread debate and reactions from civil society groups, political leaders, and rights activists across the country.
