New Delhi – Former Railway Minister and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav has approached the Delhi High Court seeking to quash the First Information Report (FIR) and subsequent chargesheets filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the alleged land-for-job corruption case. The move signals a fresh legal battle in a case that has seen significant political and legal developments.
Yadav is being represented by Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal, who contended that the CBI continued its investigation in the case without obtaining the mandatory sanction required to probe a public servant under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Sibal argued that the lack of prior sanction from the competent authority renders the investigation and the chargesheets legally untenable.
“The investigation was carried out without obtaining sanction, which is a statutory requirement. This violates established legal procedures,” Sibal told the court, urging it to quash the FIR and all consequential proceedings initiated against the veteran leader.
