Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President KT Rama Rao (KTR) on Monday launched a sharp critique of the Union government’s GST reforms, questioning both their substance and the celebration surrounding their rollout.
“We want to ask Modi ji, are you returning the money? If you're returning the huge sums you collected from the people of India over eight years, then we'll have a 'Bachat Utsav',” KTR said, referring to the BJP’s framing of the reforms as a festival of savings. “The GST Bachat Utsav felt very strange,” he added.
The senior BRS leader argued that symbolic celebrations cannot mask the financial burden faced by ordinary citizens. He challenged the central government to take concrete steps that would provide visible relief. “If you want to celebrate festivals, then first you should bring diesel and petrol down to Rs 50, bring the cylinder back to Rs 350 and return the GST money taken by the Government of India so that festivals can be celebrated properly,” he stated.
