Bhubaneswar, Odisha: Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) Deemed to be University has announced the dispatch of a 40-member contingent of student athletes to represent India at the World University Games 2025 in Germany. This marks the largest representation by any Indian university in the history of the Games.
The KIIT athletes will compete across seven sporting disciplines, underscoring the university’s growing prominence in nurturing sports talent alongside academic excellence.
Speaking on the occasion, KIIT Founder Dr Achyuta Samanta expressed pride in the achievement. “We are happy and proud that Odisha is representing India through over 40 athletes,” he said. He also noted that Odisha now ranks second only to Punjab in sending players to the event, with 42 athletes in total.
Dr Samanta extended his gratitude to the central leadership, stating, “We thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for promoting sports and sports personnel like anything.” He also recalled the success of KIIT alumna Dutee Chand, who secured India’s first-ever gold medal at the World University Games.
