New Delhi: As the #KhoKhoWorldCup gains momentum, significant strides in the modernization of the sport have become a topic of discussion. Director of Gravolite India Private Limited, Ashok Kumar Somani, shed light on a transformative decision to replace traditional muddy surfaces with injury-free mats, aimed at enhancing the safety and appeal of Kho Kho on an international stage.

Speaking about the evolution, Somani said, "Earlier, Kho Kho was played on muddy surfaces, but when it was decided to take the sport to the international level, it became necessary to ensure no game is played on such surfaces. That’s when mats were introduced."

To achieve this, Gravolite consulted numerous experts to design mats that cater to the specific needs of Kho Kho players. “We ensured that the mats are injury-free and durable,” he added, emphasizing the importance of player safety.

Somani also highlighted Gravolite’s contribution to the sport by providing specialized mats for both competitive games and practice sessions. "We have been successful in making the game safer while preserving its traditional essence. The mats are now widely used, ensuring that the players can focus solely on their performance," he stated.

The transition from mud to mats has been instrumental in Kho Kho’s global journey, with the sport now attracting an international audience and elevating its status in the world of athletics. This innovation marks a significant step in making Kho Kho safer, more professional, and accessible for players worldwide.
