Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday expressed deep anguish over the blast at a police station in Nowgam, Jammu & Kashmir, which claimed nine lives and left 24 others injured. Calling the incident “extremely disconcerting and sad,” Kharge extended his condolences to the bereaved families and urged authorities to ensure that the injured receive immediate and adequate medical care. He also stressed the need for fair and sufficient compensation for all victims.

The Congress chief linked the tragedy to the recent car blast near Delhi’s Red Fort, describing the two incidents as alarming signals of a growing terror threat. Kharge said the developments should serve as a wake-up call for the Union government to reinforce intelligence gathering and strengthen counter-terror mechanisms across the country. “The government cannot run away from accountability,” he asserted.

Reaffirming the Congress party’s commitment to standing united with the nation against terrorism, Kharge urged the Centre to convene an all-party meeting at the earliest. Such a discussion, he said, is vital given the mounting security challenges and the alleged backing of terror activities by external forces.
