New Delhi: Kerala BJP president Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Thursday questioned Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s recent announcement of welfare schemes, suggesting that the timing—just months before the state elections—raises doubts about their intent.
“We all saw this very interesting sight of the Chief Minister of Kerala holding a press conference and announcing many schemes,” Chandrasekhar said. “We are fully supportive of any political party or government that sincerely works for the poor and creates more opportunities for them. This is our ideology, and we support such initiatives.”
However, he said the announcements come after 4.5 years of the government’s tenure and just four months before elections. “He is implementing now what he had promised four and a half years ago to get votes,” Chandrasekhar remarked.
The BJP leader also criticized the state government for allegedly denying senior citizens access to the Centre’s Ayushman Bharat health scheme. “Even today, Kerala is one of the few states where people over 70 years are being denied PM Ayushman, which provides ₹5 lakh worth of free medical treatment. If the Chief Minister is genuinely serious about helping the poor, he should announce PM Ayushman’s implementation immediately,” Chandrasekhar added.
