Thrissur, August 4: Congress MP and party general secretary KC Venugopal announced that leaders of the INDIA alliance will hold a significant get-together in Delhi on August 7 to coordinate their strategy against what they allege are systematic irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Venugopal accused the Election Commission (EC) of acting in a partisan manner, undermining the neutrality expected of a constitutional institution.
Speaking to reporters, Venugopal said, “We are protesting against SIR inside and outside Parliament. The Election Commission is systematically targeting the democratic values of this country. We expected neutrality from the Election Commission, but they are not doing so.”
He expressed particular concern over the deletion of voters’ names in Bihar, claiming that large sections of the electorate have been arbitrarily removed. “The names of many voters have been excluded from the list in Bihar. How can a fair democracy run like this?” he questioned, emphasizing that such actions threaten the foundational principles of India’s democratic system.
Venugopal further revealed that the opposition would expose what he described as “serious malpractices” by the Election Commission in a detailed presentation in Bengaluru on August 5. “We are going to reveal the serious malpractices of the Election Commission in Bengaluru on August 5,” he said, indicating that the INDIA alliance would escalate its campaign to ensure electoral transparency.
