Chandigarh: Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu announced that the Indian Railways is set to install the advanced Kavach 4.0 rail safety system on 10,000 locomotives across the country. Speaking in Chandigarh, Bittu described Kavach as a "Sanjeevani" for the railways, referring to its life-saving potential in preventing train accidents.
The Minister revealed that in Punjab, the Kavach system would be implemented on the rail route between Chandigarh and Dhoolkot, improving rail safety in the region. "In Northern Railways, the work for Kavach has been approved for 1,790 km," Bittu added, showcasing the government's focus on enhancing rail safety infrastructure across the northern rail network.
Developed indigenously by Indian Railways, the Kavach system is designed to ensure train safety by using automation to prevent collisions, monitor speed, and assist drivers. The rollout of Kavach 4.0 represents a significant advancement in railway technology, aimed at reducing human errors and improving overall operational safety.
The announcement reflects Indian Railways' continued efforts to modernize its operations and improve passenger safety, particularly in busy and high-traffic areas.
