Bengaluru: Karnataka Home Minister G Parmeshwara on Tuesday firmly defended the Congress party’s legacy on national security issues, emphasizing the need for political unity in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack. His remarks came amid criticism from some quarters regarding Congress leaders’ responses to the incident.
"The sacrifice made by Congress for the nation's security is immense. No one else has made the kind of sacrifices for national security that Congress has," Parmeshwara stated. He stressed that Congress does not require lessons from others when it comes to protecting the nation’s interests.
Addressing concerns about the party's position on the Pahalgam attack, Parmeshwara clarified that Congress has not adopted a "soft stand" on the matter. "Our leaders have already expressed their views in the all-party meeting," he said, asserting that the party remains committed to national security.
Highlighting the need for a unified response, Parmeshwara urged leaders across political parties to act with caution and responsibility. "This is a matter of national security. All of us must speak cautiously. We must view this beyond party lines and make decisions in a non-partisan manner," he emphasized.
The Home Minister concluded by stating that Congress stands firmly with the government on issues of national security. "It is unacceptable for one person to say one thing and another to say something else," he said, calling for consistency and solidarity across political leadership during such critical times.
