Bengaluru | Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar addressed preparations for New Year celebrations in Bengaluru, balancing ongoing mourning for official government work with the city's festive spirit. Emphasizing safety and law enforcement, he assured the public that all necessary measures are in place for a secure celebration.
“For New Year, we can’t pleasantly stop the celebration, we can’t stop individual celebrations,” Shivakumar stated. He clarified that while the government has announced mourning for official work and offices, private celebrations will proceed as planned.
To ensure public safety during the festivities, Shivakumar revealed that nearly 10,000 cameras have been installed across Bengaluru for surveillance. “It’s an international city, so we should be careful about law and order,” he said, stressing the importance of vigilance in such a cosmopolitan environment.
The Deputy CM also assured that the government is not imposing restrictions on the business community during the New Year period. However, he urged citizens and businesses alike to maintain law and order. “Everyone must maintain law and order; you can consider this as a warning or a request,” he added.
Bengaluru, known for its vibrant New Year celebrations, is expected to witness large crowds across key areas. The installation of extensive surveillance systems reflects the city’s commitment to ensuring the safety of its residents and visitors, while Shivakumar’s balanced approach aims to preserve both security and festive cheer.
