Bengaluru, Karnataka – Amid concerns raised in Tamil Nadu’s all-party meeting over delimitation, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has firmly opposed any reduction in parliamentary seats, advocating for fair representation based on population growth.
“India is a vast country with a federal structure, and we cannot change that structure. I believe there is some plan to reduce seats, but we will fight for our right,” said Shivakumar, expressing Karnataka’s stance on the matter.

Referring to Tamil Nadu’s ongoing discussions, he acknowledged the importance of states uniting against any potential loss of representation. “I don’t know the exact numbers, but Tamil Nadu must fight for its rights, and Karnataka stands committed to that fight as well,” he affirmed.
Shivakumar stressed that seat allocation should align with population growth, rather than being reduced arbitrarily. “We want more seats, not fewer. Our population has increased, and representation should reflect that. Let the seats be determined based on population data, rather than reducing them in our states,” he asserted.
