Delhi: Senior Rajya Sabha MP and veteran political leader Kapil Sibal has welcomed the government's decision to send an all-party delegation abroad to highlight India’s stand against cross-border terrorism and Pakistan’s alleged role in promoting it. Reflecting on the precedent set during the UPA era, Sibal credited former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh for initiating similar diplomatic outreach after the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.
“After 26/11 attacks, the then PM Manmohan Singh decided to send delegations to different countries to show the world that Pakistan is a terrorist state and that terrorists are born there,” said Sibal. He added that during that time, global perception about Pakistan began shifting. “An environment was created in the world that Pakistan is a factory which produces terrorism,” he noted.
Sibal also drew attention to the reduction in terror incidents during the UPA years, stating, “During PM Manmohan Singh's tenure, terrorist attacks in J&K kept reducing. The terrorist attacks in 2014 in J&K were less than the later years after 2014.”
He revealed that he had earlier called for a similar delegation to be sent following the ceasefire agreement along the Line of Control. “I demanded that an all-party delegation visit different countries,” he said, expressing satisfaction that his call has now been heeded.
“I am very happy that PM Modi heard the demand of the opposition. I always say that if he considers our advice, the solution to many problems can be reached together,” Sibal added, striking a rare note of political consensus.
