Haridwar, Uttarakhand: In a remarkable expression of devotion, Kanwad Yatris from Gurugram have embarked on their spiritual journey with a massive golden Shiva Kanwad, weighing approximately 800 to 1,000 kilograms. The Kanwad, mounted on wheels and adorned in gold-like decoration, has become a focal point of attention during this year’s Kanwad Yatra in Haridwar.

Speaking about the unique Kanwad, one of the Kanwariyas, Sonu Rana, said, “This is a unique Kanwad. This was made in Sonipat. It weighs around 800–1,000 kgs and is carrying approximately 40 litres of Gangajal. People are appreciating this Kanwad. We will travel like this for around 250 kilometres.”

The Kanwad Yatra is an annual pilgrimage undertaken by devotees of Lord Shiva, who collect sacred water from the Ganga River and carry it back to their hometowns, offering it at Shiva temples. While most Kanwariyas carry lightweight bamboo structures, this elaborate wheeled Kanwad has drawn significant public and media interest due to its scale, craftsmanship, and symbolic grandeur.
