New Delhi — BJP Member of Parliament Kangana Ranaut on Thursday praised the India-UK Free Trade Agreement as a landmark moment for the country’s economic diplomacy, while also voicing concern over the escalating drug crisis in her home state of Himachal Pradesh.

Speaking to reporters in Delhi, Ranaut said, “Our country’s biggest achievement is the India-UK Free Trade Agreement. It is a no-tariff, no-tax deal on 99% of the trade items. I want to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving us this historic moment.”

The India-UK FTA, currently under final stages of negotiation, aims to remove trade barriers and increase bilateral commerce between the two nations. While full official details of the agreement have not yet been released, preliminary briefings suggest significant reductions in tariffs on key goods and services.

Turning to domestic issues, Ranaut highlighted the growing concern around drug abuse in Himachal Pradesh. “The situation of drugs in Himachal is very serious. A serious step needs to be taken at the earliest,” she said.

She alleged that narcotics are being trafficked into Himachal via Punjab from Pakistan and are having a devastating effect on youth and families in the state. While authorities have acknowledged drug trafficking as a persistent problem in the region, inter-state enforcement efforts continue.
