Hyderabad: On the occasion of Professor K. Jayashankar’s birth anniversary, BRS MLC K Kavitha paid floral tributes to the noted academic and Telangana ideologue, crediting his vision as the foundation of Telangana Jagruthi, the cultural organization she leads. The day also marked the 19th anniversary of the organisation, formed during the peak of the Telangana agitation.
“Today is the 19th anniversary of our organisation, Telangana Jagruthi. We were formed during Telangana agitation period and till date we have worked towards uplifting the Telangana culture, identity,” Kavitha said. “We draw our principles from the ideals of Professor Jayashankar and hence we celebrate our anniversary on his birthday,” she added.
Professor Jayashankar, a prominent figure in the Telangana movement, is widely respected for advocating regional identity and social justice. Telangana Jagruthi, under Kavitha’s leadership, has positioned itself as a promoter of cultural heritage and regional pride since its inception.
Responding to the ongoing Congress protest regarding the BC Reservation Bill, Kavitha took a sharp stance, criticizing the approach of the current state government. “We have always urged the Congress government to go to Delhi as a government, not a party, because that way the passage of the Bill by the Union government would have been easy,” she said.
She further alleged a lack of political backing for the protest. “No political support has been gathered by the Chief Minister, he has gone to Delhi doing the same drama, and we don't even know Rahul Gandhi will attend this protest or not,” Kavitha remarked. She challenged the Congress leadership, urging Rahul Gandhi to raise the issue in Parliament and requested Sonia Gandhi to seek an appointment with the President to push for the Bill’s passage.
