JMM MP Mahua Maji Urges Election Commission to Ensure Transparency Amid Opposition Concerns

Delhi: Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) MP Mahua Maji emphasised the importance of transparency in electoral processes, urging the Election Commission to take steps that reinforce public confidence in the democratic system.

Speaking on current political debates, Maji said that Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi bears a responsibility, along with other elected representatives, to protect the Constitution and ensure that democratic principles are upheld. She stated that protecting voting rights and preventing any perception of tampering with electoral rolls were central to maintaining faith in institutions.

Maji added that if the opposition or citizens have concerns about the functioning of the Election Commission, the organisation must ensure clarity and accountability. She said such a situation—where questions are raised about its impartiality—should not arise and urged the body to proactively address doubts.
