Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday underscored the importance of ensuring that welfare initiatives genuinely benefit the most disadvantaged sections of society. He was speaking at the Empowering Communities – Welfare for All event in Srinagar.

Highlighting the need for targeted delivery of benefits, Abdullah cautioned against welfare measures that fail to prioritize those in real need. “…If the government’s welfare policies are meant for those who are financially, socially, and physically fit, it doesn’t help. The government should reach those who are truly needy, those at the very end of the line who require assistance. Power should be used to support those in need,” he said.

The Chief Minister added that effective governance lies in bridging the gap between policy and implementation, ensuring resources are allocated fairly. He emphasized that government support systems must be designed to uplift vulnerable communities, including economically weaker families, socially marginalized groups, and individuals with disabilities.
