Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday reacted to the Supreme Court’s refusal to advance the hearing date on pleas concerning the restoration of J&K’s statehood. He reiterated his government’s commitment to the issue and urged for an early resolution.
Speaking to reporters, Abdullah said, “We don’t know who approached the Supreme Court seeking urgent hearing. We also want there should be no further delay in this decision. It’s been more than 10 months since we came to power, and from day one, we have been working towards the restoration of statehood.”
The Chief Minister emphasized that the return of statehood remains a key priority for his administration. He pointed out that his government has consistently advocated for constitutional and democratic rights for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, and that a timely verdict from the apex court would help in creating political stability and public trust.
While the Supreme Court has maintained its schedule for the hearing, Abdullah stressed that his government would continue its efforts to ensure that the matter is resolved at the earliest. He called upon all stakeholders to work together towards safeguarding the democratic aspirations of the region.
