Srinagar, J&K: Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, on Thursday commended the significant progress made by Jammu and Kashmir in the power and housing sectors, calling the region a frontrunner in key energy initiatives. His remarks came after a meeting with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to review ongoing development projects.
“It is a matter of great happiness that a lot of work is being done in both departments—Power and Housing and Urban Affairs,” Khattar said. “Wherever there are issues, they have been brought to the notice of the Central Government, and if we have noticed any concerns, they have been communicated to the state government. We will work together to resolve them smoothly.”
Highlighting remarkable strides in the power sector, the Union Minister noted that Jammu and Kashmir has outpaced many other Indian states in the adoption of smart infrastructure. “A lot of work has been done in the power department in the last few years. In particular, the state is ahead of others when it comes to implementing smart meters and prepaid smart meters. In these areas, other states are far behind, while J&K has achieved remarkable success,” he said.
