Jammu: Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Wednesday shared a detailed update on the flood situation across Jammu Division following days of heavy rainfall. The minister said he has been in constant touch with Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar, who is coordinating efforts with multiple departments and agencies.
According to the update, most parts of the Jammu Division continue to witness rainfall, though the intensity has reduced in recent hours. While the level of the river Tawi has receded, the Chenab is still flowing close to the danger mark.
Restoration of essential services such as electricity, water supply, and mobile connectivity remains the immediate priority, with teams working overnight to repair damage. Agencies including the SDRF, NDRF, Army, Air Force, and paramilitary forces are actively engaged in rescue and relief operations in coordination with the civil administration.
Authorities have ordered the closure of schools and colleges and urged the public to avoid non-essential movement for their safety. Among the structures damaged is the historic Madhopur bridge, which has been closed to traffic since early Wednesday morning.
Singh assured citizens that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is personally monitoring the situation and receiving regular updates. “Without being panicky, let all of us cooperate among ourselves and with the authorities,” the minister appealed in his message.
