RANCHI: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren reaffirmed his government’s commitment to supporting the families of Agniveers from the state, particularly those who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. Speaking on Tuesday, Soren highlighted the state’s proactive measures to address concerns regarding the future of youth involved in the Agniveer scheme initiated by the central government.
“The central government has started a scheme like Agniveer for the security of the nation. There are many questions about the future of the youth,” Soren remarked, reflecting on the uncertainties faced by young individuals under the scheme.
Citing the recent sacrifice of Agniveer Arjun Mahto, Soren announced comprehensive support for the martyr’s family. “The state government had already decided that it would stand with the families of those Agniveers of Jharkhand who have lost their lives in any incident. Agniveer Arjun Mahto has recently sacrificed his life for the country,” he said.
To honor the sacrifice, the Chief Minister revealed that Mahto’s brother has been provided with an appointment letter for a government job, ensuring long-term security for the family. Additionally, an ex-gratia amount of ₹10 lakh has been handed over to the family.
This gesture underscores the Jharkhand government’s commitment to ensuring the welfare of its citizens who serve in national defense. The announcement also addresses broader concerns about the future of Agniveers, as many question the sustainability of the short-term recruitment initiative.
Soren’s assurance of standing by Agniveer families aims to instill confidence among the youth and their loved ones, as the state seeks to strike a balance between honoring sacrifices and advocating for their rights.
