Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir – In a major step towards conserving one of Kashmir's most iconic symbols, the Jammu and Kashmir government has launched the "Digital Tree Aadhaar" program, aimed at preserving the majestic Chinar trees that are under threat due to rapid urbanization and climate change.

The Chinar tree, a cultural and ecological symbol of the region, has long been celebrated for its majestic presence and its significance in local folklore. As part of the new initiative, the government is geo-tagging these trees and equipping them with QR codes to create a comprehensive, digital database.

The QR codes will contain detailed information about each Chinar tree, including its geographical location, health status, and growth patterns. Conservationists will be able to track any changes in the tree’s condition and assess any risks it may face from external factors such as pollution, urban development, or climate change.

The initiative aims to provide an effective monitoring system that ensures Chinars are preserved for future generations while also contributing to the environmental and cultural heritage of the region
