External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar on Thursday lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address in the Lok Sabha on the 150-year legacy of Vande Mataram, calling it an inspiring and deeply moving reflection on one of India’s most powerful national symbols. In a social media post, Jaishankar highlighted the emotional and historical layers of the Prime Minister’s speech, which traced the song’s journey from the freedom movement to its contemporary resonance.
Jaishankar noted that PM Modi’s remarks captured how Vande Mataram “inspired a nation” and “energised our freedom struggle,” becoming a unifying force during some of the most challenging phases of India’s fight against colonial rule. He emphasised that the hymn had evolved into a symbol of the country’s collective strength and determination.
“As Vande Mataram completes 150 years, its ethos of resilience, inclusivity and rejuvenation continue to guide us towards Viksit Bharat 2047,” Jaishankar wrote, drawing attention to the government’s long-term vision of a developed India by the centenary of independence.
