Delhi: In a strongly worded statement on Wednesday, Congress MP Jairam Ramesh expressed grave concerns over the reported US invitation to Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir, linking the move to recent terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. He called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to stop politicizing national security and instead build a unified, institutional response through consultation with all political parties.

“Asim Munir, whose statements and the Pahalgam terror attacks are directly linked to each other, gets a special invitation for the US Army Day. What is the US up to?” Ramesh questioned, referring to the growing alarm in India’s strategic circles following the terror incident in Pahalgam and Munir’s alleged role in stoking cross-border tensions.

He stressed the need for a collective political approach to tackle such emerging challenges. “We have to sit together. We have to have a collective response, a collective will. How is that coming about? It will come only through all-party meetings, through parliament sessions,” he said.

The senior Congress leader also criticized the Modi government’s handling of national security and political engagement. “The Prime Minister should stop playing politics, start doing governance, and take opposition parties—not individuals—into confidence. The anchor of our system is political parties, not individuals,” Ramesh asserted.
