Chennai: A High Altitude Long Endurance Remotely Piloted Aircraft (HALE RPA) leased by the Indian Navy encountered a technical failure while operating from INS Rajali in Arakonnam on a routine surveillance mission. The incident occurred around 1400 hrs when the aircraft experienced a malfunction that could not be reset in flight.

Despite the technical issue, the crew successfully navigated the aircraft to a safe area over the sea. The HALE RPA was subsequently ditched in a controlled manner off the coast of Chennai, ensuring minimal risk to personnel and equipment.

The Indian Navy has requested a detailed report from the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) to investigate the cause of the technical failure and to assess the incident thoroughly. As the Navy continues its surveillance operations, this incident underscores the importance of maintaining rigorous safety protocols and technical oversight for unmanned aerial systems. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses
