New Delhi – In a remarkable testament to grit, determination, and national pride, 22 mountaineers from the Indian Army successfully summited Mount Everest (8,848 metres) on May 27, 2025, marking a triumphant culmination of the Silver Jubilee Everest Expedition, a flagship initiative by the Indian Army Adventure Wing.

The expedition, launched to commemorate 40 years since the Army's first successful Everest ascent in 1985, holds deep symbolic and historic significance. This year’s mission was led by Lt Col Bhanoo Pathak, supported by Maj Mehak Mehta and Maj Anirudh Yadav, under the overarching command of seasoned expedition leader Lt Col Manoj Joshi.

The climb represents not just a physical triumph over one of the world’s most formidable peaks, but also a celebration of four decades of mountaineering excellence within the Indian Army. The 1985 expedition, led by Brigadier D.K. Khullar, had laid the foundation for what has become a proud legacy of high-altitude military exploration and national representation on the world stage.

“The Indian Army Adventure Wing continues to push boundaries, combining physical excellence with a spirit of service and discipline,” said an Army spokesperson following the successful summit. “This expedition is not just a personal achievement for the climbers, but a moment of national pride.”
