British-Indian entrepreneur and member of the UK’s House of Lords, Lord Rami Ranger, described the India-UK relationship as entering a “golden opportunity” phase, backed by economic potential and shared democratic values.
In an exclusive interview with ANM News, Lord Ranger said that External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s statement- calling 2025 a landmark year for India-UK relations- perfectly reflects the growing importance of the partnership. He stressed that the upcoming Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the world’s third and fourth largest economies would unlock historic levels of growth and opportunity.

“India’s economy is growing at 8% annually,” Lord Ranger noted. “The scale of India’s production makes it possible for UK companies to manufacture at half the price and compete with China.” He further emphasized that collaboration in defense, engineering, IT, pharmaceuticals, and clean energy could greatly benefit both sides.
He also urged business leaders to be proactive. “Just signing an agreement is not enough. Indian companies should showcase their products in the UK and British firms must explore opportunities in India,” he said, calling the FTA a “gateway to prosperity.”
Defending India’s stance on Russian oil purchases, Lord Ranger reminded that “Russia stood by India when others didn’t,” and praised the UK’s mature understanding of India’s energy needs.
Highlighting shared democratic and secular values, he said, “We are both rule-of-law nations where freedom and equality prevail. That makes our partnership natural and powerful.”
Lord Ranger concluded by urging both governments and entrepreneurs to seize the moment: “The India-UK partnership is not just about trade-it’s about vision, trust, and opportunity. The future of the global economy depends on how well we work together.”
