The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has announced that India will host the 89th General Meeting (GM) of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) from 15 to 19 September 2025 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The event is expected to bring together more than 2,000 experts, industry leaders, and policymakers from over 100 countries.

The IEC General Meeting serves as a global platform for discussions on electrotechnical standards that shape the future of electricity, electronics, and related technologies. This year’s deliberations will focus on advancing a sustainable, all-electric, and connected world, with emphasis on innovation, safety, and international cooperation in standardization.

According to the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, this will be the fourth time India is hosting the prestigious event, following previous editions in 1960, 1997, and 2013. Officials noted that India’s growing role in technology, renewable energy, and digital infrastructure makes the country a significant contributor to global standardization efforts.
