New Delhi: India has begun coordinating with the United States on the extradition of Tahawwur Rana after the US Supreme Court dismissed his final appeal. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed the development, stating that all legal avenues for Rana in the US have been exhausted.
"Tahawwur Rana has exhausted all legal avenues in the US, with the US Supreme Court also dismissing his appeal and therefore, we are now in touch with US authorities to work on the logistics of his surrender to Indian authorities," Misri said earlier today.
Rana, a Pakistani-origin Canadian businessman, is wanted in India for his alleged involvement in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. He was arrested in the US in 2020 following an extradition request from India, which accused him of supporting Lashkar-e-Taiba operatives, including David Coleman Headley, in planning the attacks.
