New Delhi: Ahead of the INDIA bloc's scheduled meeting on August 7, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi outlined several pressing concerns that opposition leaders intend to bring to the fore. Speaking to reporters, Chaturvedi criticized the government’s alleged reluctance to accept accountability on matters of national security, electoral transparency, and economic policies.
Referring to recent incidents, Chaturvedi highlighted the Pahalgam terror attack, alleging that no accountability has been sought from the Union Home Ministry. She also questioned the government's statements on "Operation Sindoor", pointing out perceived contradictions between ongoing operations and simultaneous cultural and sporting events involving foreign participants. "We see cricket matches being organized for monetary gains over the blood of Indian citizens," she remarked.
Chaturvedi raised serious concerns regarding electoral integrity in Maharashtra, citing discrepancies in voter registration and turnout. She claimed that nearly 45 lakh voters were added to the rolls, while around 70 lakh votes were cast in the final hours of polling. "The Election Commission needs to explain on what grounds over 60 names were deleted. Migrant voters who shifted to other states have found themselves disenfranchised upon return," she said, adding that such actions undermine democratic participation.
Economic issues are also expected to feature prominently in the INDIA bloc's discussions. Chaturvedi expressed apprehensions about the trade agreements with the United States, specifically the tariffs and their impact on India's economy and domestic industries.
“These are critical issues concerning the nation—be it electoral fairness, citizens’ rights, or the economic implications of international deals. This is what will be on the agenda when INDIA bloc leaders meet on August 7,” she concluded.
