New Delhi: A political storm erupted in the Lok Sabha as leaders of the INDIA alliance staged a walkout in protest against Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s remarks during her reply in the House. The opposition accused the minister of selectively presenting data to put Tamil Nadu in a negative light, continuing what they claim is a trend of defaming states governed by non-BJP parties.

Speaking to the media after the walkout, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said, "The Finance Minister tried to show Tamil Nadu in a bad light by mentioning selective data. There have been repeated attempts by Union Ministers to defame opposition-ruled states by highlighting selective data. In protest against this, the Opposition walked out."

The INDIA alliance leaders argue that the Union government has been unfairly targeting opposition-ruled states, particularly in economic and financial discussions. They claim that such selective use of data distorts the real picture and undermines federalism.
