Thoothukudi: Heavy and persistent rainfall over the last 48 hours has inundated several suburban localities of Thoothukudi district, leaving residents grappling with widespread waterlogging and severe disruption to daily routines. Housing colonies, residential lanes, and low-lying stretches have been submerged, with rainwater entering homes in some pockets.

The stagnant water has posed significant challenges for office-goers and students, many of whom struggled to navigate flooded streets on Monday morning. Senior citizens and patients requiring medical visits were among the worst affected, as several narrow roads became impassable. Local residents reported delays and cancellations in public transport services as well.

Adding to the difficulties, intermittent disruptions in drinking water supply and power outages were reported in multiple neighbourhoods. In certain areas, overhead line faults and waterlogged transformer points resulted in extended electricity cuts, prompting concerns about safety and sanitation.
