Delhi: Congress MP Imran Masood on Wednesday sharply criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence following US President Donald Trump’s recent remarks on Russian oil, questioning India’s stance on international issues and its relationship with Russia.
“Is Trump our father? Why did he tell us everything while our Prime Minister stays silent? What secret is being kept?” Masood said, expressing concern over what he described as a lack of clarity from the government. He accused the Centre of withholding information from citizens and suggested that India’s foreign policy decisions should be more transparent.
Referring to Russia as India’s “old friend,” Masood urged the government to firmly state its position in support of Moscow. “Will we eat roti only when Trump gives it to us? We are such a significant market, so Trump cannot afford to ignore us,” he said, asserting that India must act as a self-reliant power rather than appear submissive to foreign influence.
Masood also warned against returning to what he termed as “shackles of slavery,” adding, “If you understand the chronology, you’ll understand what’s going on in the world. Where do we stand? No one is ours, and we belong to no one.”
