Panaji, Goa: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange alert for Goa on Friday and Saturday, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall across the coastal state. A Yellow alert will remain in effect until July 9, as the monsoon continues to intensify.

The weather system, driven by active monsoonal conditions over the Konkan coast, has brought consistent rainfall to the region over the past several days, disrupting normal life in certain low-lying and flood-prone areas. Local authorities have urged both residents and tourists to avoid non-essential travel, particularly near rivers, waterlogged roads, and coastal zones experiencing rough sea conditions.

Despite the inclement weather, Goa continues to attract tourists who are reveling in the state’s lush green landscapes and rain-washed beaches. Many visitors are embracing the monsoon as a unique experience, exploring quieter beaches and soaking in Goa’s off-season charm.

Emergency teams have been placed on standby, and district administrations have been asked to remain vigilant. “We urge people to stay indoors during intense spells, avoid flooded streets, and closely follow updates from local officials,” an official advisory stated.
