Shimla: BJP MP and Union Minister Anurag Thakur has backed the recent Shimla court order directing the complete demolition of a mosque in the Sanjauli area, citing illegal construction and lack of documentation from the Waqf Board.

Speaking on the matter, Thakur criticised what he called a pattern of evasion by the Waqf Board. “The mindset of the Waqf Board is that they will never show documents. The construction of the mosque in Shimla’s Sanjauli was illegal. There were no land documents,” he said.

The court’s decision follows a report by the municipal commissioner, who stated that all floors of the structure were built without official permission. Despite several notices and ample time to present legal documents, the Waqf Board reportedly failed to provide any proof of ownership or construction clearance.

Thakur further claimed, “There are thousands of such examples in the country,” suggesting that the issue of unauthorised religious structures under Waqf control extends beyond this single instance.
