Delhi: In a disturbing hit-and-run incident on November 2, two Delhi traffic police officers sustained injuries while attempting to stop a vehicle that had jumped a red light near the Neb Sarai traffic signal. Additional CP Traffic, Dinesh Kumar Gupta, provided details on the incident, explaining that the traffic personnel signaled the car to stop after observing it violating the signal. Instead of halting, the two young men inside the vehicle accelerated in an attempt to evade the officers.

One of the officers was forced onto the bonnet of the car and was dragged approximately 20 meters before the car eventually stopped. The officers were immediately taken to Safdarjung Hospital, where they received primary medical treatment for their injuries before being discharged.

“The incident occurred when our traffic personnel spotted a car that had jumped a red signal. When they signaled the driver to stop, the car sped up, and one of our officers ended up on the bonnet, being dragged for about 20 meters,” Gupta reported. He added that the quick response and determination of the officers helped contain the situation.

The Delhi police have filed charges against the offenders under multiple sections, including obstructing a public servant in duty and attempted murder. The vehicle has since been seized, and the two young men involved have been apprehended by the police. According to Gupta, the case highlights the dangers faced by traffic personnel in enforcing road safety and the need for stricter compliance with traffic regulations to prevent such reckless incidents.

Delhi Police officials have reiterated their commitment to road safety and have warned that such actions will be met with strict legal consequences. The incident has also sparked discussions about the challenges and risks that law enforcement officers face daily in ensuring public safety on the city's roads.
