Guwahati/New Delhi: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a sharp counterattack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi “Surrender Modi,” accusing the Congress party of historically compromising India’s sovereignty and interests.
In a strongly worded tweet on June 5, Sarma defended the Modi government’s assertive approach to national security and foreign policy, citing recent military operations and diplomatic resilience. “Rahul Gandhi has the audacity to mock Prime Minister Narendra Modi as ‘Surrender Modi’ despite the massive success of #OperationSindoor,” Sarma wrote.
He continued by invoking the Congress party’s past decisions, alleging they had undermined national integrity. “Let’s jog his memory as to which party and family has surrendered India’s interest and territory, and backstabbed the people with their treachery,” he said, without naming specific historical instances.
Sarma contrasted the current administration’s posture with what he called the “dark days” under previous regimes. “Under PM Narendra Modi, India doesn’t plead. We act in Uri, we strike in Balakot, we stand our ground in Galwan, and we lead globally,” he asserted.
Referencing key moments like the 2016 surgical strikes and the 2019 Balakot air strikes, as well as the 2020 Galwan Valley clash with Chinese troops, Sarma underscored the Modi government’s image as a strong, proactive national leadership. He added, “From military to diplomacy, from economy to national security—India today speaks with strength, not submission.”
Calling for the Congress to refrain from projecting what he called its “history of cowardice” onto PM Modi, Sarma concluded emphatically: “India remembers. India has risen. And India won’t surrender again.”
