New Delhi: The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court dismissed a writ petition filed by former BJP MLA Baba Gorakhnath challenging the election of Samajwadi Party leader Awadhesh Prasad in the 2022 Milkipur Assembly polls. Reacting to the verdict, Prasad expressed satisfaction and called for timely elections in the constituency.

“When I won as Faizabad MP, the BJP leader should have withdrawn his writ petition. Today, the court has asked him to withdraw his petition,” said Prasad, highlighting the persistence of legal challenges post his election victory.

Prasad further appealed to the Election Commission to expedite the process for new elections in the constituency. “I hope the Election Commission will announce elections there without delay now,” he added.

The court's decision brings an end to the legal contest over the Milkipur Assembly seat, paving the way for further political developments in the region.
