Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Monday announced that the state cabinet has approved a key decision to provide government jobs to dependents of victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, even if the victims had died outside Haryana.

“Today, twelve of our official and two unofficial agendas were presented in the Cabinet,” Saini said while briefing reporters after the meeting. “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, our government, understanding the pain of the families affected by the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, decided to provide employment to one member of their families,” he added.

Saini recalled that he had earlier announced the plan on the floor of the Legislative Assembly during the monsoon session, stating that employment would be offered through the Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam (HKRN).

“The Cabinet has decided that those who were residents of Haryana at the time and died during the riots, even if they died outside Haryana, should be given employment. Today, it was decided that even if someone died outside Haryana during the 1984 riots, their dependents will be given jobs,” he confirmed.
