Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Wednesday distributed compensation to thousands of farmers whose Kharif crops were damaged during the heavy rains and flooding that hit several districts earlier this year. Addressing a gathering in Chandigarh, Saini said the government had acted promptly after assessing the ground situation across affected regions.
The Chief Minister recalled that torrential rains in August and September caused significant losses to standing crops, prompting the administration to open a dedicated portal where farmers could register details of the damage. “After reviewing the situation on the ground, the government opened a portal for farmers to register crop damage. Today, ₹116.15 crore is being transferred to 53,821 farmers as compensation,” Saini said.
Alongside compensation payouts, the Chief Minister also announced the release of payments under the Bhavantar Bharpai scheme, which protects farmers against distress sale and price fluctuations. The disbursals include ₹35.29 crore for bajra, ₹27.43 crore for cotton, ₹22.91 crore for paddy and ₹14.10 crore for jowar.
Saini also confirmed that funds have been sanctioned for the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) and metropolitan development authorities to expedite ongoing infrastructure and urban development projects. He said the government remains committed to ensuring timely financial support for farmers and strengthening governance mechanisms across the state.
