Delhi: Union Minister Harsh Malhotra on Sunday underscored the central government’s focus on fitness and sports culture, saying the Sansad Khel Mahotsav was a direct reflection of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message of “Khelega India Toh Badhega India.” Speaking at the event, Malhotra said the initiative aims to encourage youth participation in sports while strengthening India’s journey toward becoming a fitter and more developed nation.

“The Prime Minister gave everyone a message of ‘Khelega India Toh Badhega India’… Therefore, we organised the Sansad Khel Mahotsav and have been conducting 11 games for the last 20 days,” he said. Eight of these events, he noted, are Olympic disciplines, while three—Yoga, Kho Kho, and Kabaddi—highlight India’s traditional sporting heritage.

Malhotra also flagged the significance of the Namo Run held on Sunday, which carried dual themes of “Road Safety” and “Fit India.” He said the run was aimed not only at boosting physical well-being but also at spreading awareness about safe practices on the road. “Nearly 4,500 participants took part in this,” he added, calling the turnout a sign of growing enthusiasm for community-level sporting activities.

Emphasizing the broader impact of the movement, Malhotra said, “‘Fit India’ is a major contributor in Viksit India,” asserting that a healthier nation forms the backbone of national development.
