New Delhi | Responding to Congress' allegations that the BJP has dishonored former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri dismissed the claims as baseless and asserted that the BJP has always respected Singh's contributions.

Speaking to reporters in Delhi, Puri highlighted the Sikh community's tribute to Dr. Singh. “The Sikh community came and prayed for him. We have always admired his work and drawn inspiration from him,” he said.

Puri further pointed out that during the immersion of Singh’s ashes, BJP representatives were present, while Congress leaders were notably absent. “Even today, when his ashes were immersed, our people were there and not the people from Congress,” he remarked.

Addressing plans for a tribute to the late leader, Puri reassured that a memorial would be constructed in Singh's honor. “In the days to come, a memorial will be built for sure,” he stated.

The Union Minister criticized Congress for attempting to create controversy surrounding the former PM’s legacy. “I don't think that we should give a free run to those who are creating controversy,” Puri said, emphasizing the need for dignity and respect in such matters.

Dr. Manmohan Singh, one of India's most respected leaders, passed away recently, leaving behind a legacy of economic reforms and governance. While Congress has accused the BJP of failing to honor his contributions, Puri's remarks underscore the government's commitment to preserving his memory and legacy.
