Gandhinagar, Gujarat – A grand state-level felicitation ceremony will be held at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar on July 4, 2025, at 3 PM, celebrating the spirit of grassroots democracy and women-led governance in Gujarat. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will preside over the event, where he will virtually allocate over ₹35 crore in development grants to 761 Samaras Gram Panchayats.

The event will bring together 4,876 newly elected Sarpanchs from across the state, alongside 600 women representatives from 56 Mahila Samaras Gram Panchayats—panchayats where all elected members, including the Sarpanch, are women. These all-women bodies emerged victorious in the recently concluded Gram Panchayat elections, highlighting the growing strength and participation of women in local governance.

This initiative is part of Gujarat’s long-standing commitment to Samaras Panchayats, where elections are conducted through consensus rather than contest, encouraging harmony and collaborative development. The Mahila Samaras Panchayats in particular represent a step forward in empowering women at the village level, enabling them to take leadership roles in shaping rural governance and development agendas.

The ₹35 crore grant announced for 761 panchayats will support infrastructure and welfare projects ranging from clean water supply and sanitation to digital literacy and health services.
