Kolkata: West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose on Wednesday said that a full combing operation of the Raj Bhavan premises would continue, despite an initial search yielding no incriminating findings. The Governor’s remarks follow allegations made by TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee, who had claimed that explosives were present inside the Raj Bhavan complex—a charge Bose says must be proven false before the public.
“Sniffer dogs and bomb squad were there. It was a joint operation between the state and central forces. Nothing has been unearthed, but I still want the total combing operation in the Raj Bhavan to establish the truth before the people of Bengal,” Bose said. He added that he would take whatever action is necessary once the search is fully completed.
The Governor stressed that his reaction should not be seen as an ultimatum, though he issued a firm deadline for the TMC leader to reconsider his claims. “He (TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee) has the option to apologise before the people of Bengal if he finds his allegations to be baseless. For that choice, I gave 24 hours,” he said.
Bose warned that failure to apologise would trigger “strong legal action,” signalling that the matter could escalate into a political and legal confrontation. The episode adds a fresh layer to the already tense relationship between Raj Bhavan and the state’s ruling party, with both sides trading sharp words over the allegations and the subsequent security operation.
