Kolkata: West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose on Tuesday strongly condemned the attack on BJP MP Khagen Murmu and MLA Sankar Ghosh, who were reportedly injured and hospitalised following the incident. Calling it a serious matter, the Governor described the assault as an attack on democratic principles.

“BJP MP and MLA were attacked and are hospitalised. It was a brutal attack. This is not just an attack on individuals but on democracy itself. It is the state government’s job to maintain law and order,” Bose said in a statement, urging the state administration to take immediate steps to ensure safety and order.

The attack has sparked sharp political reactions across West Bengal, with opposition leaders alleging a breakdown of law and order. The state government has yet to issue an official response.

Commenting separately on the recent Darjeeling landslide, Bose said he has submitted a comprehensive report to the President of India. “I have written a detailed report on the landslide and the destruction of houses. I have outlined all the necessary actions to be taken and submitted the report to the President,” he said, stressing the need for swift rehabilitation measures.
