Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Thursday affirmed in the Lok Sabha that the government is fully prepared to hold comprehensive discussions on election reforms and other major issues raised by members across the political spectrum. His remarks came in response to suggestions made earlier by Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, who urged the House to take up matters concerning electoral processes and related revisions.

Rijiju acknowledged that the demand for such a discussion was not limited to the Opposition benches. “The matter was also raised by Congress members in the Business Advisory Committee, along with other parties,” he said, adding that the government has consistently maintained its openness to debating issues of national importance.

Reiterating the government’s position, the minister said, “The government has, from day one, made it clear that it is ready to discuss all important matters, including election reforms and special intensive revision, taking suggestions from all members, including the principal opposition parties led by Rahul Gandhi.”

He assured the House that the subject would be placed on the agenda in a systematic manner. “The issue will be structured and taken up for discussion accordingly,” Rijiju said, signalling that consensus-driven deliberation may take shape later in the Winter Session.
