Gold prices on Tuesday surged to an all-time high, breaching the ₹1.3 lakh per 10 grams mark in the national capital as buyers thronged jewellery stores ahead of Dhanteras, a festival traditionally associated with purchasing gold and silver. According to traders, gold rose by ₹2,850 in a single day amid strong retail and jeweller demand.
Silver prices followed suit, climbing sharply to ₹1.85 lakh per kilogram, buoyed by festive demand and global price trends. Market analysts attributed the surge to a combination of robust domestic buying, global economic uncertainty, and a weaker rupee, which makes imported bullion more expensive.
Traders said demand has remained strong across major cities, with many jewellers reporting higher footfall and advance bookings compared to last year. “Dhanteras always drives a buying rush, but this year’s sentiment is especially strong,” said a Delhi-based bullion dealer.
