Panaji — Goa’s tourism sector is set for a major transformation as the state government unveils a series of budgetary incentives aimed at promoting hinterland and eco-tourism. In a bold move to diversify from coastal tourism, the budget introduces 50% GST rebates for select tourism projects and exemptions on stamp duty for investments in underdeveloped areas of the state.
The budget places strong emphasis on rural hospitality, nature-centric travel, and immersive cultural experiences in lesser-explored regions. This policy shift is designed to reduce pressure on popular beach destinations while promoting sustainable tourism practices and equitable development.
Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte stated, “The aim is to shift the spotlight from the coastline to Goa’s rich interior landscape — its forests, temples, spice plantations, and villages. We want to attract tourists looking for authentic and environmentally responsible experiences.”
Incentives under the new policy include GST rebates on eco-resorts and homestays, financial aid for upgrading infrastructure in rural tourism hotspots, and fast-track clearances for new heritage and nature-tourism projects.
